wir segeln knapp drei wochen durch den Golfo de Ana Maria, ein naturschutzgebiet im südosten Kubas, das aus mehr aus 900 winzigen eilanden besteht, meist mangrovenbewachsten, aber auch immer wieder mit kleinen sandstränden und vorgelagerten riffs geschmückt. das gebiet ist riesig, ca 9000 qkm gross, und einsam, ausser ein paar fischern begegnen wir keinem anderen boot. abgesehen von Odin natürlich, mit denen wir weiter gemeinsam segeln und wettsegeln.
dann, eines tages:
wir segeln beim ersten tageslicht und gutem segelwetter los. aber schon bald nimmt der wind zu, wir haben gute 6 beaufort, kurze steile wellen und segeln hart am wind. bei jeder welle taucht der bug ins wasser und schaufelt. auch das seitendeck ist ständig unter wasser.
nach ungefähr 4 stunden, ich liege grade auf der couch und schlummere, kommt Börni unter deck, um auf der karte nach dem kurs zu sehen. er bleibt auf halbem weg wie angewurzelt stehen und sagt, mit blick auf den boden gerichtet, laut und deutlich: SCHEISSE! ich klettere über die sofakannte (wir haben so viel krängung (schräglage) dass die liegefläche des sofas genauso steil ist wie die lehne auch) um zu sehen was Börni so aufregt. es ist wasser. viel wasser. so viel wasser, dass es schon über die bodenbretter rausschwappt und den boden überschwemmt. ich jetzt auch: SCHEISSE!
das nächste was man in so einem fall macht, ist das wasser, so schmutzig es auch ist, zu probieren. kann einem viel arbeit ersparen. wir tauchen beide den zeigefinger ins wasser und stecken ihn in den mund: es schmeckt salzig. was das bedeutet, muss man, glaub ich, auch keiner landratte erklären. es sind jedenfalls nicht die süsswassertanks die hier lecken. da haben wir´s jetzt also: die situation, vor der sich der gemeine segler am meisten fürchtet. irgendwo ein leck, das schnell gefunden werden will, weil wir sonst irgendwann mit mann und maus untergehen. das darf nicht passieren.
wir sind eigenartigerweise ganz ruhig, klar zittern uns die knie, aber keine anzeichen von panik. und das ist auch wichtig. schnell checken wir sämtliche ventile und stellen fest, dass diese dicht sind. da sich das wasser von vorne nach hinten zu arbeiten scheint, muss es entweder mit dem ankerkasten zusammenhängen oder wir haben ein leck im rumpf nach aussen. wir vermuten den ankerkasten. da wir bei jeder welle so viel wasser schaufeln, wäre es möglich, dass er vollgelaufen ist und da irgendeine verbindung zum schiffsinneren nicht mehr dicht ist.
erstmal muss das wasser hier raus. wir holen an die 60 eimer wasser aus der bilge und stellen irgendwann fest, dass das wasser fast so schnell nachfliesst, wie wir schöpfen. also drehen wir bei, um eine einigermassen stabile lage zu haben, und inspizieren den ankerkasten. er ist bis obenhin voll. wir pumpen und schöpfen gleichzeitig auch den ankerkasten leer und versuchen ihn und die ankerwinde so gut wie möglich abzudichten. mit klarsichtfolie, was sich als äusserst hilfreich entpuppt. das wasser scheint nicht mehr nachzufliessen. gefahr gebannt!
als wir abends vor einem kleinen verlassenen eiland den anker werfen, freuen wir uns das erstemal seit wir segeln nicht auf den feierabend. dieser wird nämlich keiner sein. uns steht eine menge arbeit und fluchen bevor. denn wir können nur ahnen, was da alles in salzwasser gebadet hat und vielleicht nur noch um müllsäcke zu füllen taugt. als belohnung gibts am späten abend spagetti.
wir brauchen noch den ganzen nächsten tag um einigermassen ordnung in unser chaos zu bringen, die sachen, die zu retten sind zu retten und zu entsalzen und so weiter. ach ja, und das leck finden wir zum glück auch. wir füllen und leeren ein paarmal den ankerkasten mit wasser, was ganz schön ins kreuz geht, bis wir irgendwann ein winziges bohrloch finden, das uns bisher verborgen blieb. und das dort vor allem überhaupt nichts verloren hat. es hat nur etwa einen halben zentimeter durchmesser, aber das genügt scheinbar, ein schiff schnell mit wasser zu füllen. erschreckende erkenntnis. aber unsere schutzengel meinen es scheinbar gut mit uns und lassen uns auch diesmal nicht im stich...
